Youths hold “Christmas Peace Fest”
They are calling it a Christmas Peace Fest, and it is an attempt to stop the street violence, or at least get us a little reprieve for the New Year. The event, scheduled for December twenty-first, will feature positive messages and work to create peace through music. Although the organisers are still in search of a venue and short on financing, they say they are determined to pull it off and are asking the public, the politicians, and the private sector to help them establish a youth centre and recording studio. They also say that its high time those working with youths are people that the youths can respect, and not just political appointees. Both men say they are ready and willing to serve.
Marlon Miller, Founder, Belize Young Artists
“A lot of youth out there with guns, drugs, like a whole heap of things out deh now, so we need to change that now. So if we have a role model like me, or Mr. Kelly, I mean we positive, so youth look up to me, youth look up to Mr. Kelly.”
Kevin Kelly, Director, “Youth for Peace”
“There are many people who are out in there in these streets that are only suing these youths. As gun shot fire, people would say the youths, the youths. What about the youths that put down the gun and are now in the job ethics, were do these youths go if they are getting that black ball like they are still holding guns?”
