Two of three men found guilty of Rape
Also in the Supreme Court, Roman Petzold and Francis “Pancho” Lopez, charged with the rape of a seventeen year old high school student, were found guilty of the charge today by a jury of seven men and two women.
The jury deliberated for over five hours and its verdict was not unanimous. Seven of the nine member jury voted guilty for Petzold and Lopez. The jury was also unable to reach a verdict for the third defendant, Albert Forman. Consequently, the trial judge, Justice Adolph Lucas, sent the jury back into the jury room to further deliberate. The incident occurred on April thirteenth, two thousand five at a house in Belama. The victim, who was a fourth form student at the time, testified that her boyfriend, Kenroy Cain, took her to a house in Belama and had sex with her. The minor also testified that after Cain left, she was raped by the men. Petzold and Forman testified and admitted that they had sex with the girl but claimed that it was with her consent. Lopez gave a statement from the dock in which he also claimed the contact was consensual. Lopez was not represented by an attorney. Petzold was represented by attorney Kevin Arthurs and Forman was represented by Attorney Carlo Mason. Crown Counsel Triena Young represented the prosecution.
