C.A. Foreign Ministers meet with Taiwan
The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Central America today concluded two days of meetings with their Taiwanese counterpart. During the course of the eleventh meeting of the Central American Integration System mixed commission meeting, the delegates discussed areas of cooperation, with special emphasis on projects that are for the mutual benefit of both SICA and Taiwan. Belize’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Godfrey Smith, who chaired the meeting, told reporters that Taiwan has committed over twenty million dollars to fund projects in the different countries.

“We both agreed to continue the development and funding of the trade office that is located in Taiwan, Central American Trade Office in Taiwan. We believe that is an important and integral part of pursuing economic development in our region in Central America. Again, for its part Taiwan expressed the view that it would wish to conclude more trade agreements with countries in Central America after concluding a successful trade agreement with the Republic of Panama. And for its part, the Central American countries undertook to try to prepare the environment to better attract investments from the Republic of China on Taiwan.”
The communiqué signed today in Chinese and English covers areas such as strengthening of the region’s foreign ministries, the promotion of tourism and education, sustainable agriculture, and poverty reduction.
