Belize Water Services not granted rate increase
The P.U.C. is opposing any rate increases for B.E.L. and it is also holding back on Belize Water Services Limited. Late this evening the P.U.C. issued a news release stating its reasons for not giving the nod to a proposed eight percent rate increase in water rates. According to the P.U.C., eleven out of twelve persons objected to the increase in writing. The P.U.C. says that it refused the rate increase approval because a Full Tariff Review Proceeding submission is required from the company by law. B.W.S.L has until October first of this year to make that submission. The document will provide an opportunity for the P.U.C. to revisit the company’s business plan and to assess its performance. B.S.W.L.’s application was made on grounds of a combination of electricity, bad debts and inflation costs.
