“Drums of Our Fathers” monument dedicated
On Monday, as part of the Garifuna Settlement Day Celebrations, a monument depicting the Garinagu’s past, present, and future was unveiled at the Dangriga roundabout in the centre of the town. C.E.O. in the Ministry of Rural Development, Roy Cayetano, says the Drums of Our Fathers also represents something equally significant.

“It is a call to war to take action to preserve our language, music, and values. It is a call to war for the promotion of Garifunaduau and the nurturing of Garifuna pride. It is a call to war to fight against the marginalization of our people. It is a call to war against the scourge of drugs, HIV/AIDS poverty and ignorance.”
The monument, created by Stephen Okeke, was made possible by Minister of Defence Sylvia Flores and the town council. The video was courtesy the Government Press Office.
