Sagitun still winless in Regent’s Cup
Good evening, I’m James Adderley and you’re right on time for this fresh dish of Sports Monday. Kulture Yabra was on the road Saturday night in week four of the Regents Cup playoffs looking to rebound after last week’s 2-1 defeat at the M.C.C. Grounds. The whole world knew the defending champion Sagitun of Independence, who hadn’t picked up a win all playoffs long, wasn’t going to be easy against. What a difference a year makes.
In the role of visitor, Yabra tries to open fast as Deon Frazier deals to Norman “Tilliman” Nunez who tries the trick play unsuccessfully. We must ask Julio Valle though, was this a shot or what? Nevertheless, Gary Young gets a shot at goal, but misses the target for Sagitun.
This beautiful drop from Vallan Symms almost leads to the auto goal from the Sagitun defence, but the moment passes. In heavy traffic Gary Young launches this right away attempt at goal that had promise but concludes only with excitement.
Hey Julio, que paso bwai? This should be a goal, and Wilhelm Coe you need a spanking too for not converting. At the other end, this right away grasshead burner from Norman Nunez just inches outside the sticks, and at intermission its a scoreless ballgame.
As we go to second half, we can say with some certainty that Sagitun’s Julio Valle is not having a good day. Newly appointed best midfield in the Regent’s Cup, Robert Muschamp, displays his award winning skills here, but fails to open the scoreboard.
Meanwhile, for Yabra things take a turn for the worse when this tackle costs Esteban Perez his second yellow card and his subsequent ejection leaves the city team only ten-man strong.
Sagitun tries to capitalise–Hilberto Muschamp floats into the danger zone, Moody punches it out to Wilhelm Coe, and for a second time in this ballgame, Coe can’t make use of a good rebound.
In the meantime, let’s quickly tell Gilmore Palacio that we are disappointed okay. Downfield Tilliman gets another opportunity to impress the scoreboard, but a touch too far complicates this attempt.
So Mr. Norman tries to make things right on this pass, gets a body from best defensive player of the year, Hilberto Muschamp, and the referee rules penalty.
With Nunez still recovering, Yabra sends for Deon Frazier and he converts at the eighty-third minute against the best goalkeeper, Giovanni Rodriguez, to give his team a late 1-zip lead.
In the final moments of this ballgame, Shane Moody comes up with two big time saves to secure the big W–first he denies Wilhelm Coe’s header and then halt’s Arzu’s attempt at the equaliser.
Yabra hangs on to the regulation 1-zip W and picks up the three points. In the other playoff match up yesterday at the People’s Stadium, the second of Dennis Serrano’s two goals gave Builder’s Hardware Bandits of Belmopan a 2-1 overtime win against Juventus.
Thus with two weekends remaining in this round of playoffs, Belmopan shows 11 points, Yabra 8, Juventus, 3 and Sagitun 0. Indeed it looks like the Bandits and Yabra will move on to the championship series.
This weekend’s scheduled finds Yabra at Belmopan facing the Bandits, while Sagitun travels to the People’s Stadium for a sate with Juventus.
Turning to the F.F.B.’s A league, action over the weekend saw Nery’s S.C. and Boca battle to a 1-1 draw out at the island, Valley Pride crushed Union Independiente 4-zip, and Boca Juniors outlasted Libertadores 4-3.
In the meantime, we take this opportunity to say maximum success to our national female team inside Guatemala as we speak. On the Wednesday they face Guatemala, and on the twenty-first, Panama.
That’s it for now, we invite you back same time, same place, next week. Jah over all! I’m James Adderley.
