Mother intends to sue hospital over death of newborn
Cenaida Reymundo, the eighteen year old mother whose newborn died tragically on May nineteenth, a week after she gave birth at the Punta Gorda Hospital, is taking a tough decision on the death of her child. Reymundo found courage and strength and spoke publically to the media about the pain she experienced when her pleas for help at the delivery went unanswered. Her cries turned to shouts as she was joined by many P.G. residents in a public protest against what they saw as a failing health care system. While the health authorities promised an investigation, which has been completed, but not made publicly available, this afternoon Reymundo spoke to News Five’s Jose Sanchez and told him that she now intends to sue the hospital.

“They still have to explain why I delivered my baby by myself. Why it took almost ten hours to take my baby to Dangriga, right? When my husband came then they decided to transfer the baby to Dangriga, right. Only we decide to sue, to take this to court right; find out the truth.”
Jose Sanchez
“So exactly who are you taking? The Ministry of Health, or the hospital, the doctors or the nurses? Who are you going to sue?”
Cenaida Reymundo
“The hospital system.”
Jose Sanchez
“Is there anything specific you are looking for in an outcome? Is it monetary?”
Cenaida Reymundo
“It’s not monetary. We don’t need it, we don’t need money right. We’re doing this because it’s not disciplinary hospitals. They not admitting what they did, what is wrong.”
Jose Sanchez
“You want them to admit they were at fault?”
Cenaida Reymundo
“Yes, we want them to admit they have at fault. But they say I’m lying, according to what their report said.”
Jose Sanchez
“They did not give you like a paper about their findings?”
Cenaida Reymundo
“No they just read it off the paper to us and then my husband asked for the copy of the paper and they don’t give it to us. They don’t give it to us yet and we asking for the baby record too.”
Jose Sanchez
“And you haven’t gotten that either?”
Cenaida Reymundo
“No.”
Reymundo says that she and her husband, Andy Jones, are seeking a lawyer to represent them with their case.
