How Daniel Morris Fooled Immigration

American fugitive Daniel Rae Morris apparently wound up with a Belizean’s expired passport, although he didn’t get very far with it, as he was detained at the northern border and subsequently expelled from Belize. Camalote resident Floyd Emmanuel Neal told wildly different stories about his passport to police and immigration, but he wound up getting a new one.  In addition to his work permits, Morris had also applied for nationality – and his name appeared on the “Minister’s List” spoken of earlier. It turns out Gordon Wade could not make more heads or tails of it than we could when we first reported on the matter last August.

“This person had applied for nationality in 2012, and the file said he had acquired permanent residence sometime in 2007, signed by the then-Director, Gareth Murillo; there is a notation here of what his permanent residence file number was, and it also says here that the documentation suggested that he arrived in Belize in 2005, through the Philip Goldson (International) Airport; and also prior to acquiring permanent residency that he had two previous work permits which stated that he was employed as a supervisor but no workplace was recorded on the permits.”

“At the time I was the O.C. of Nationality so I would have vetted the file, but again as I mentioned that is a completed file that comes to my desk; so whichever office he applied through – whether it be Belmopan, Orange Walk, Belize City – that would have been forwarded to Belmopan, the headquarters, where the file would have been prepped, the applicant interviewed, and then it comes to my office.”
