B.T.L. email woes leave screens empty
“We are fixing the problem.” That’s the word from Belize Telecommunications Limited as the company is faced with another outage of email service. According to Public Relations Manager Suzette Tillett, B.T.L. is in the process of installing anti-spam and anti-virus software. This, she says, is in response to customer’s complaints of too many unsolicited emails, usually containing adult content. The remedy was so effective that the system started to reject as spam all messages originating from AOL, Yahoo and MSN services. Those U.S. based providers, seeing a large number of rejected mails with the “btl.net” extensions, responded by blacklisting B.T.L. Since the alert was first raised about a week ago, B.T.L. has been in contact with AOL, YAHOO and MSN to help solve the problem. Tillett says a large amount of queued messages on the server has resulted in extra slow delivery of mails, but B.T.L. technicians, with the assistance of an imported expert, are working around the clock to resolve the problem. Tillett says that normal email service should return by Monday and assures customers that none of their emails will be lost.
