Mexican Artist and S.J.C. Students Adorn Mexican Institute Wall with Mural

A Mexican artist and students from Saint John’s College collaborated on mural earlier this week. The use of stencil and graffiti style art piece was started earlier this week and was completed today. With support from Belize Signs, the creators of the mural used a stencil to do their art next to the Mexican Institute in Belize City. We spoke with the mastermind behind the art, visiting Mexican Artist Enrique Padilla.

“I took from pop culture icon, as I used to, this still image from this TV series from David Lynch which is Twin Peaks. I took it as a motive which will resemble our flag in a certain way because we have a bird on our flag – the local black bird on this log and the cutting of the trees. It tells of the story of this country that was built on the wood industry.   The best part, I went to St John’s College and the first couple of sessions were mostly about showing them my previous work and the idea was to not only work on the mural but mostly how to develop a project from zero considering many factors.”

Padilla will be showcasing another one of his art pieces out at the Street Art Fest this weekend.
