“Miracle Baby” doing well a year later

Story Picture
We regularly run stories on people who need the community’s help…and often as a result of the ensuing publicity they receive it. It’s not always, however, that we get the chance to follow up such stories… particularly one with such a happy ending as that found by News 5’s Jacqueline Woods.

Jacqueline Woods, Reporting

One year after two-year-old Jaesha Daly underwent a life saving surgery in the United States, the young child has improved tremendously. Daly was born with a condition called Gastrochisis, an obstruction in the abdominal wall, and the little girl’s digestive system was exposed. Today, she is no longer on medication and it appears she will not have to see the inside an operating theatre for a very long time.

Caroline Jones, Mother

“Throughout the entire year I have to say thanks to God because she has been well. Everyday she wakes up with a smile on her face. We haven’t had to say; well we have to rush her to the hospital. Whenever we take her to the clinic, she is doing fine. Everything with her… she’s a normal child now, she does everything that we wouldn’t have thought she’d have done if she didn’t get the second operation.”

Because her chances for survival were extremely low, young Daly has been dubbed the miracle child.

Caroline Jones

“We always look at her and we would say, who would believe that she would be here like this. The way how the doctors were saying how the condition was so severe we were thinking that probably if she gets the second operations she will live. It will save her life, but we would always be taking her to the hospital, she would have to be back or forth with medications and all this. And I have to say, not even one medication, not even the common cold she gets. We have to be every, very thankful every God given day that has just pulled through and she is doing so well.”

Jones would like to especially thank those who assisted the family in their hour of need, including Doctor Coleman, the K.H.M.H. staff, Jeff Clark, Bob Jones, Jerry McDermott, Saint Catherine’s Academy, and Edward P. Yorke High School, along with many others who offered help, both financial and spiritual.
