S.J.C. Jr. College student wins open scholarship

A student of S.J.C. Junior College has been awarded the 2003 Belize Open Scholarship. Gian Garfield Cho was judged the top performer out of the one hundred and twenty Belizeans who sat the University of Cambridge International Exams in May and June. Finishing just behind Cho were Jacqueline Usher and Bruno Samos, also of St. John’s, and Andre Lee and Virgilio Melgar of Corozal Junior College. Rochelle Brown and Leon Westby of E.P. Yorke High School received top honours in the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate Exams. They are among three hundred and seventy-five students who will receive tuition scholarships from the Ministry of Education to attend a junior college of their choice. Secondary schools with the highest number of scholarship winners are Muffles with fifty-nine, St. Catherine with forty-eight, Corozal Community College with forty-five, S.J.C. with thirty-seven, and E.P. Yorke and Stann Creek Ecumenical, each with twenty-seven.
