Over 3000 customers sign with new phone company
They fell shy of their two-day target of five thousand… but the new telephone company, INTELCO, still had a pretty good opening weekend. According to INTELCO’S Director of Business Development, Steve Anderson, a respectable three thousand, two hundred subscribers signed up for cellular service between Friday and Saturday. And Anderson says that number is expected to increase substantially as people continue to flock to the company’s New Road office to sign up for service, which includes a month of free calls. After what seems like years of waiting, the International Telecommunications Company publicly launched services on Friday afternoon, although no rates were announced. INTELCO says those prices will be published after approval from the Public Utilities Commission. The down side is that as it currently stands people who have signed up with INTELCO are only able to talk with each other, as B.T.L and INTELCO have not yet agreed on rates for interconnection which would allow the two companies’ subscribers to communicate.
