Bodies recovered in Maypen triple drowning

Story Picture
The bodies of three people from Maypen Village who drowned on Thursday night have been retrieved from the Belize River. As we reported on Friday, twenty-three year old Dorian Rhaburn, three-year-old Curtis Rhaburn and fifty-two year old Kendis Moody lost their lives when the motor driven dory they were travelling in hit a log and capsized. The four people in the vessel were thrown overboard, but only the captain, twenty-three year old Sterling Moody, was able to swim to safety. On Saturday, searchers found the body of Dorian Rhaburn about a hundred yards from where the boat sank, while Moody’s body was retrieved three miles down river from the site of the accident. It was not until Sunday that the child’s corpse was found, as the fast moving current carried the body of young Curtis over five miles away to an area near the Water Treatment Plant at Double Run. The two adults were buried immediately due to the advanced state of decomposition. Moody was laid to rest at his father’s farm in Maypen, while Dorian Rhaburn was buried at the family’s home in Biscayne village. Curtis Rhaburn was buried in Biscayne on Sunday evening.
