Supreme Court to Hear Officer’s Appeal in Stolen Radio Case

Jamil Scott

While Usher is in trouble with his department; a police officer found guilty for the theft of a handheld radio stolen from the Belize Police Department was granted an appeal and his conviction for a three month prison sentence set aside. In September 2014, Officer Jamil Scott and his girlfriend, Jellsi Zapeta were both charged with handling stolen goods for the hand held radio.   Zapeta walked, while PC Scott was found guilty and sentenced to three months on February twenty-seventh 2017 by Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith. But Scott took his case to the Supreme Court and was successful in getting an appeal granted. After his sentence was set aside, he was offered bail in the sum of five thousand dollars.  In trial, Scott denied stealing the hand radio even though police found it in Zapeta’s possession.
