Man charged with burning Mom’s house in Benque
Meanwhile, in Benque Viejo, police have acted quickly to charge a resident of that town with arson. To make matters worse, the house he is accused of torching is that of his mother. It is alleged that in the wee hours of Monday morning thirty-three year old Alvin Mendez set fire to the upper flat of a three-storey cement house on Wyatt Street, belonging to his mother, sixty-year old Maria Mendez. The building, which had a thatch roof, suffered damages estimated at forty thousand dollars. It was not insured. Alvin Mendez has been remanded to Hattieville Prison after being denied bail by the Magistrate. He will reappear in court on November twenty-seventh.
