Two drug planes will be auctioned

Story Picture
And finally, while Belizeans are no strangers to auctions, two coming up next week merit special mention. On Wednesday and Thursday, November sixth and seventh, the government of Belize will be auctioning off two recently acquired twin engine aircraft–both believed to have been used for drug smuggling. The first, a Russian built Antonov 26, was abandoned after landing on a road outside Blue Creek on August twenty-ninth. It will go on the block on Wednesday at a site not far from where it landed. The following day the action will shift to a field near Banana bank where prospective buyers can bid on a Beechcraft Queen Air that went down around the fifth of September. In each case the successful bidder will take possession of the plane as is where is. It is presumed that the original owners will not show up for the sale…but stranger things have happened.
