Armed robbers hit Cayo tourist lodge
In other police news, two armed robbers have absconded with over a thousand dollars from a Cayo tourist resort. Around six Monday evening the pair, armed with a shotgun and handgun, entered Maya Mountain Lodge on the Cristo Rey Road and ordered employee Melvin Ayala to lie on the ground, while they ran off with one thousand, twenty-five dollars in cash and two cell phones. Those who watched Monday night’s newscast may recall that a hold-up early Sunday morning in San Ignacio had virtually the same modus operandi. Police have made no arrests in either incident.
They have been more successful, however, in nailing some suspected counterfeiters. Thirty-year-old Eden Ramos and twenty-three year old Harlan Ramos of Dangriga have been arrested for the crime of uttering counterfeit currency. This is presumably in connection with recent reports of bogus blue notes circulating in Dangriga and Belize City.
