Erratic Sister-Killer Elijah Burke in Court; Faces Psychiatric Evaluation
Twenty-six-year-old Elijah Burke has been ordered a psychiatric evaluation after appearing in Magistrate’s Court earlier today to face a charge of murder. The younger sibling of Julian Burke was detained by Belize City police on Monday night, following a deadly chopping incident on Sunday at his sister’s residence in the Kings Park area. In court late this evening, he appeared before Magistrate Carlon Mendoza where he was arraigned. During his indictment, Burke’s behavior was described as erratic. When his name was called, the accused murdered told the court that it is not his name. In fact, Burke said that the name belongs to another sibling. Due to his actions court prosecutor, Sergeant Claude Pitts was of the impression that the suspect was not in his right mind and requested a psychiatric evaluation. Burke allegedly butchered his sister Julie with a machete on March nineteenth when she returned home with her six-year-old son after visiting with her family. He reportedly waylaid her, following an argument at a sister’s home where he was accused of stealing Julie’s personal belongings. Despite an attempt to flee her attacker, Julie was chopped multiple times to the head and body and succumbed to her injuries at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital a day later. Burke has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison until June twenty-first. He will undergo a psychiatric evaluation while he remains on pretrial detention.
