New high school opens in Belmopan
The City of Belmopan boasts a new educational institution as official ceremonies were held this morning for the opening of Our Lady of Guadalupe High School. Located on the grounds of the capital’s Roman Catholic Church, the new church/state secondary school began operations on September first with an enrolment of forty-nine first year students. There are four permanent teachers on staff along with several volunteers. According to a government press release, Principal Barrette Belisle is optimistic that the school will expand rapidly and they are in negotiation with the Belmopan City Council to acquire land for a new campus. On hand for today’s inauguration were Bishop O.P. Martin, Mayor Anthony Chanona and Prime Minister Said Musa.
