Police Mourn Toledo Woman Officer’s Tragic Traffic Death

Jennifer Hibberd

There were three fatal road traffic accidents reported over the weekend, including one in the Toledo District which claimed the life of a Woman Police Constable.  Thirty-two-year-old Jennifer Hibberd was driving a Honda CRV sports utility vehicle in the area of Cattle Landing Village on the Southern Highway when she collided into a car that was headed in the opposite direction.  The deadly head-on collision occurred along a curve.  According to police, they spotted a black Dodge Intrepid in the middle of the highway with extensive damages to the front passenger side.  Not far away, they saw the Honda SUV in the nearby bushes.  The driver of the Intrepid, thirty-two-year-old Liston Armstrong Junior, reported that he was on his way home to mile thirteen when he collided into Hibberd on the Southern Highway.  Commissioner of Police Allen Whylie spoke briefly on the tragic accident.

“We also had, as you might be aware, of the passing of WPC Hibberd in the Toledo District due to a fatal traffic accident.  I believe Mr. Martinez and the press office may have issued press releases in terms of the incidents over this weekend but I’ll just go over to say that during this weekend it was a violent weekend across the entire country of Belize.”

Elsewhere, there was a traffic fatality in near Ranchito Village in the Corozal District on Saturday evening.  Thirty-four-year-old Margarito Matus of Orange Walk was to Corozal when crashed into a Meilun motorcycle driven by twenty-five-year-old Edwardo Sanker of Xaibe Village.  Sanker perished at the scene of the accident.  Meanwhile, another traffic accident moments earlier has left a seventeen-year-old motorist critically injured.  Forty-two-year-old cane farmer Ejidio Pott was driving from San Narciso to San Victor when he also collided into a Meilun motorcycle that was carrying seventeen-year-old youth.  The last traffic fatality happened in the early hours of Sunday morning when police visited the Hope Creek community where they saw an unidentified male person mortally injured from an alleged hit and run incident.
