Man arrested after shootout with cops
A Belize City man is in custody following a shootout with police. Twenty-four year old Moses Gonguez of Yorke Street in Belize City was riding on a bicycle when he approached three police officers. One of the officers noticed that Gonguez was armed with a thirty-eight-calibre handgun and tried to take it away. A struggle ensued, the gun discharged, the cop let go and Gonguez proceeded to fire four more shots, none of which hit anybody. Meanwhile, another policeman took out his thirty-eight and shot Gonguez in the leg. Gonguez managed to take off, however, and quite possibly would have escaped were it not for the intervention of an alert police officer on Cemetery Road who noticed the bleeding gunman and made the collar. Gonguez is expected to be charged with attempted murder.
