YWCA opens day care centre
This evening the Young Women’s Christian Association celebrated another achievement in its ongoing efforts to educate youths. This time fifty children will benefit from the Y.W.C.A.’s first day care centre. The centre, which was constructed at a cost of over one hundred thousand dollars, consists of an activity room, a toddlers resting area, infant resting area, a conference room, office, reception area, kitchen, laundry room and bathroom facilities.
Sonia Linares, General Secretary, YWCA
“We firmly believe here at the Y that early childhood education is very important. We presently have a pre-school with a capacity of a hundred and eighty children. And we feel that providing a day care centre where parents can leave their children while at work will be good so that they will feel comfortable that they have a safe place to leave their children.”
The upper flat addition was made possible through financial contributions by the Government of Belize, The Commonwealth Debt Initiative Programme and both the local and international Y.W.C.A.’s.
