Alleged Immigration “Agent” Can’t Say Why He is Being Framed

Before that big reveal, Middleton displayed a severe case of amnesia through much of this morning’s testimony, apparently unable to recall much of anything that happened to him in the past several years and certainly around the time under investigation by the Select Committee. Take, for instance, Inez Casanova, the Immigration officer erroneously accused of a common-law relationship with Middleton. She did testify that she counted him as a friend – someone she spoke to regularly and even dropped off in her vehicle from Orange Walk to Belize City – though not to discuss anything Immigration-related, she said under oath. But apparently, Middleton did not think much of their friendship because he could not even recall under oath whether he had been friends with Casanova, never mind travelled with her.

Mark Lizarraga

Mark Lizarraga, Senator, Business Community

“Mr. Middleton, I find it incredibly difficult to believe that a bunch of people would plot to give this Committee, under oath, false testimony about your knowing them; about them having spoken to you – you’re not even admitting that they spoke to you about any of these matters, is that correct?”

Barton Middleton, Businessman

“Yes, sir.”

Mark Lizarraga

“I’m even questioning why Mrs. Casanova would under oath again, having been seen in public with you on many occasions, having admitted to have travelled with you on many occasions, and you’re denying that this ever happened? Is that correct?”

“That’s what she said; I’m saying I never travelled with her.”

Mark Lizarraga

“You never – that’s what I’m saying. You’re denying – that it never happened, that you never travelled with her; as a matter of fact I remember the Chairman asking you if you’ve ever been in a vehicle with her, or something to effect, and you said no, you’ve never…”

Barton Middleton

“So you’re asking me the same question again?”

Mark Lizarraga

“Yes I am, because I’m just trying to make sure that I’m understanding what it is you are saying, and why is it all these people are telling lies, apparently, about you.”
