Gurkha court martial set for Nov. 10
Three Gurkhas accused of killing a fourteen-year-old Belizean in a barroom brawl will face a court martial next month in Belize. According to reports by the British Broadcasting Corporation, the three soldiers, charged in the beating death of David Zabaneh in May 2001, will be tried at the headquarters of BATSUB in Ladyville. The proceedings will begin November tenth and are expected to last a month. A number of witnesses, both Belizean and British, are expected to be called. The Gurkhas, native to Nepal, have a long history of fighting fiercely for the British Army. The killing of Zabaneh, admitted to the club despite his age, took place at Raul’s Rose Garden on the night of May tenth.
