Min. of Health contracts investigated by Contractor General
Over twenty six contracts worth one point six million dollars are currently under investigation by the Contractor General. The contracts were awarded by the Ministry of Health to the tune of at least a hundred thousand dollars each for the provision of pharmaceuticals. But it seemed that somewhere along the way they established procedures were not followed and this sent up a red flag from the Contractor General. Today C.E.O. in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Peter Allen, told News Five that the mistake was a mere oversight and he is confident that the investigation will reveal nothing unusual or questionable.
Dr. Peter Allen, C.E.O., Ministry of Health
“The Contractor General’s guidelines are these for the inviting tenders, having a tender committee and making sure that there is an evaluating committee, making sure that there are sealed bids then contracts are developed and so. And that’s the proper way but what we failed to do was send it to the Contractor General in time so as soon as he pointed out our error to us because we did send the contracts to him but we sent them to him after rather than before. So as soon as he pointed out this error and told us that he would have to investigate to make sure that we’d follow the proper procedures, we have cross complied immediately and sent over all the proper documents. Our understanding is that it’s a procedural error and we are very confident that the Contractor General will agree with us that we have in fact followed the guidelines as appear in the Contractor General’s regulations. We are happy to accept scrutiny. We don’t believe that our system is anything other than transparent and accountable and the Contractor General, right now, is reviewing all this and I am very confident that he will find that we have been completely open and honest with this procedure.”
