P.U.P. Calls Out Education Minister: “Stubborn, Immature and Downright Dangerous”

The P.U.P. in a release this evening called the million dollar payout to teachers, “the sign of a stubborn, immature and downright dangerous man who refuses to accept that he went up against the teachers and lost.”  The party makes the point that in a time of deep economic recession, the G.O.B. had to present an austerity budget of over eight hundred million dollars in new taxes and almost sixty million dollars in spending cuts, including for the Police Department, the Fire Department and the Food Pantry Program.  It says that two days after the start of the new financial year, there is a very first supplementary which was not approved by parliament.  The P.U.P. also calls the measure union busting and a nefarious attempt by the government to divide the teachers.  It believes that in the hearts of many of those teachers who did not strike, there was support for the union and its stand against corruption. And while it cannot force any teacher to take the principled position of rejecting the proposed honorarium, it says it is a sad day when this government openly tries to divide the teachers. The P.U.P. cites other examples where the government has used the divide and conquer tactics, concluding that what the B.N.T.U. and its teachers did in October of last year has and will benefit all teachers, public officers and the nation at large for many decades to come.
