Police pick up Ernest Hinds

Story Picture
This afternoon two suspects in one of the city’s recent high profile murder cases were taken over to Magistrate Court and charged. Police say their investigation indicates that Ernest Hinds, better known as “Scurvy”, and Jermaine Pascascio were the two men that entered Leal’s store on Pickstock Street with the intention of robbing the owner, Inez Leal. Leal wound up shot in the face and died instantly. Sources close to the case told News 5 that they believe Hinds was the man who pulled the trigger. Following the shooting, Leal’s wallet containing several hundred dollars and his licensed point twenty-two pistol were discovered missing. The police, acting on information they received, arrested Pascascio earlier this week and circulated photos to the media of Hinds on Wednesday. That move paid off and today Hinds was in police custody. Hinds and Pascascio have been jointly charged with murder. In addition, Pascascio has been charged with the attempted murder and use of deadly means of harm and dangerous harm in connection with another shooting in September. Twenty-year-old Ernest Hinds was released from the Hattieville prison in June, after serving five years for burglary. A spokesperson for the Leal family told us that they are pleased with the progress the police have made and now they only want justice to be served.
