U.B. Names New Vice President; Honors For New Prez from U.W.I.
The University of Belize has recruited another renowned Caribbean educator to lead the tertiary institution. In a release issued today, UB announced that Doctor Mariot Simon will serve as Vice President and will report directly to the President on Academic Affairs. Simon is a U.S. citizen, but a native of Trinidad and Tobago with extensive teaching experience in the areas of economic development, emerging sectors, export market and international marketing. He holds a doctorate in business administration with a specialization in international management, as well as two Master’s degrees in business administration and agricultural economics.
Simon takes over from Doctor Cynthia Thompson who had been holding over the Academic Division for the past three months. Just last month, the university announced the appointment of Professor Clement Sankat of Guyana as its new President. Sankat was just bestowed with the title of Professor Emeritus by the University of the West Indies. He served as a Principal of the UWI Saint Augustine Campus from 2008 to 2016.
