Does Chester Williams Have Political Ambitions?
Since breaking news of imminent transfers within the Eastern Division jurisdiction a few weeks ago, there has been speculation whether ACP Chester Williams’ relocation to Belmopan is politically motivated. The commander of Eastern Division South will be assigned to a desk job at the Professional Standards Branch, which many believe is a demotion of sorts, considering other appointments his colleagues are being given. But is Williams’ transfer an attempt at thwarting his political ambition? That’s what we asked him on Wednesday. Here’s what he had to say.
ACP Chester Williams, Commander, Eastern Division South
“Whenever the time comes, if it comes, that I have any political ambitions I will know what to do. I will leave the department and go and do that. I am a police officer for now until I don’t know when, until I decide to leave, and until then I serve the police department and the Commissioner of Police. So, about any political ambition I don’t know where that is coming from. I have not decided whether or not I will be doing that. I enjoy my work as a police officer and I want to continue that.”
