16 guns seized from hotline tips
The Police Department reports success in the early weeks of their programme that offers cash rewards for information leading to the seizure of firearms. So far sixteen illegal guns have been confiscated as the result of phone tips, and arrests have been made in fifteen of those busts. According to police press officer G. Michael Reid, around two thousand dollars has been awarded to citizens for information given over the 922 hotline, although in some cases concerned citizens have volunteered information without requesting so much as a cent.
