Brawl Escalates to Murder in Trio

Turning to crime…a deadly machete mayhem in Trio Village over the weekend has resulted in two men being hospitalized, while the mutilated body of another remains at the morgue.  On Saturday night, twenty-two-year-old Santiago Garcia, along with twenty-nine-year-old Arturo Choc and Leonardo Ba, was attacked by a group of machete wielding men while walking down an unknown street.  Garcia, a Belizean laborer, was chopped to the back of the head, right cheek and right wrist.  He succumbed to those injuries sometime around eleven o’clock, while being transported to the Independence Polyclinic.  Choc was observed with a large cut wound to the right side of the head, while Ba was seen with a large cut wound to the right hand.  Both men remain under police guard at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.  Officers attached to the Intermediate Southern Formation, a jurisdiction of the Belize Police Department, are investigating the fatal chopping incident.  In other crime news from the Toledo District, Punta Gorda police are tonight no closer to making an arrest in the murder of a Guatemalan businessman in Jalacte last Thursday.
