Union Says Everyone was Watching Operatives at Work
Late last Thursday evening, upon emerging victorious as the new president-elect, Senator Elena Smith best described those moles as only she can. Having spotted the so-called U.D.P. operatives at the convention, Smith told reporters, “that if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck then it must be a duck.” While Palacio seconds the analogy, he says that it should be of national concern that Faber, the aspiring leader of the nation, is once again being two-faced with the people of the country by pretending not to have known the whereabouts of his assigned driver. That ministerial driver was reportedly also in the audience.
Luke Palacio, President, Belize National Teachers Union
“Of course, we saw some of the government party’s operatives there and so, again, when the minister made that statement to the media yesterday that he was unaware, it begs the question: he’s aspiring to become the prime minister. He’s the deputy party leader and while I am told that his driver was there. Now if your driver who has been assigned to you drives a government vehicle and you will say you don’t know the whereabouts of your driver for those hours that he was reportedly at the convention then again, it begs the question. And we need to try as much as we can, whatever the difference is, we have to treat these matters as matters of national concern because you make it appear, in other words, based on what he was saying, he makes it appear as if though, look, somebody, everybody is telling lie about me or everybody is misinforming the nation when you have so many hundreds of eyes looking and seeing what is going on. Nonetheless, we trust that based on the outcome of the election, based on the fact that the B.N.T.U. remains resilient in trying to ensure that we carry out what it is that we are supposed to do as a union, for our members, for the teachers of Belize, for the education system of Belize, and of course for the country of Belize, we are not deterred.”
