P.U.P. convention seeks Cayo South candidate
Cayo South voters will go to the polls this weekend in the first of two elections designed to fill the House of Representatives seat made vacant by the death of Agripino Cawich. While the United Democratic Party has already declared John Saldivar as its candidate in the division, the People’s United Party has three hopefuls seeking to be the blue standard bearer. They are Carlos Santos, former Cayo South representative Samuel Waight, and Pino’s son Joaquin Cawich. The P.U.P. convention will be held on Sunday at the Agricultural Show Grounds just outside Belmopan with the polls open between ten and four. There are more than eight thousand, four hundred voters in Cayo South, making it the largest constituency in the nation. The date of the by-election between Saldivar and the P.U.P. candidate has yet to be finalized, but by law must be held by November eighth.
