Bus carrying tourists involved in accident on highway
It has not been a good day for visitors to the jewel. Shortly before eight this morning, a bus carrying tourists en route to Jaguar Paw for cave tubing ran off the road to avoid hitting a freightliner that was turning into a road just before mile seven on the Western Highway. Before coming to a complete stop in the bushes, the bus crashed into a hydrant several meters off the right side of the road. The forty five visitors on board were shaken up but unscathed. News Five spoke with investigating officer, Corporal Everon Tek of the Hattieville Police, who provided details.
Cpl. Everon Tek, 2nd Officer in Charge, Hattieville Police
“We proceeded out to the scene where we observed a freightliner truck and an M.C.I. bus with tourists within the said bus on the right hand side of the highway. It ran off the road in order to avoid collision with the said freightliner which was exiting a compound at six and three-quarter miles on the Western Highway.”

“Did anyone get injured in this process sir?”
Cpl. Everon Tek
“No one was injured. Within that said bus, it had forty-five tourists and they were heading to Jaguar Paw. The bus was driven by one Mr. William Black. He was coming from Belize City, as I mentioned before, en route to Jaguar Paw. Mr. Valentine Sosa was driving the freightliner truck. He was exiting a compound where he usually parked that said truck. Due to the length of the truck he was coming unto the highway en route to Ladyville at the same time this bus was coming from Belize City and to avoid a collision the bus had to end up in the bushes.”

“It knocked down some post I believe right?”
Cpl. Everon Tek
“Right, a fire hydrant.”
Duane Moody
“Do you think maybe speeding could have been the cause of this?”
Cpl. Everon Tek
“At this point in time I cannot say, but I believe so.”
