4 Charged for Firearm in a Taxi

Police busted four men in a taxi in which they found a point thirty-eight revolver on Wednesday on Arlington Drive, Belize City. The taxi, a Dodge Caravan, was being driven by fifty-six-year- old Clive Smith; the passengers were Aaron Flowers, Elwin Pollard and Kendale Green.  By this morning, the group appeared before Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser and were charged with unlicensed firearm and ammunition.  Smith, Pollard and Green were the first to be charged while Flowers eluded police and a bench warrant was immediately issued for his arrest. Within an hour, police escorted Flowers to the Belize City Magistrate’s Court.  At their arraignment, the four accused men pleaded not guilty to the two firearm charges. Flowers disputed that he had escaped police and told the court that while in detention, he made a deal with police to hand in a gun to secure his release. After he handed in the gun, he claimed, he was set free.  But he says the police wanted another gun. And this morning he was picked up at his girlfriend’s home, given back the firearm and taken to court.  The senior magistrate pointed out that while this is his side of the story, she still cannot say that is the true story. All four men were denied bail and remanded to the Belize Central Prison until June first, 2017.
