Jealous lover kills girlfriend, self
It was a weekend of deadly violence in the nation’s commercial capital. What all three of the weekend murders appear to have in common is that they occurred on Friday night and the killers and killed were well acquainted.

The family of twenty-three year old Dominga Andrea Pop says repeated harassment and threats by Pop’s jealous lover, former prison officer thirty-two year old Lyle Jenkins, led to her brutal murder on Friday night.

“They use to live together way down Cemetery Road and then she tell we that how the man choke her, that’s why she wah lef the man. So we tell her the best thing if she lef the man, goh dah my ma and left he mek he noh harass you, we tell her. So she gone down to P.G.”
According to the family, Pop and Jenkins were sitting inside The Hammer club on Kings Street when an argument ensued. Jenkins reportedly got up, walked away, but returned this time armed with a gun that he used to kill the young single mother.

“They sitting down together she and Lyle di drink. So must be my sister gone tell him something?I noh know that’s what her co-worker seh?and the man just get up and left the bar and tell she I di come back fi you. And noh long when the man reach again and she still di sit down the drink and the man just reach and start shoot she. When he see he kill she, he shoot ihself. But the fourth shot dah mi fi he, but he never, because like how he done shoot himself in the neck he must mi can’t manage it again to shoot ihself a second time. That’s why he ketch the man foot. That’s what the co-workers tell we when we reach back deh.”
Pop, who worked at the establishment as a waitress, lay dead on the floor with gunshots to her head and stomach. Pop’s friend, twenty-five year old Bernard Herrera, who the family claims tried to come to the young woman’s aid, was treated and later released from the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Jenkins was hospitalised at the K.H.M.H., but later died from his injuries.
Members of Pop’s family say just two weeks ago, Jenkins chased Pop from her work place, but she managed to make it to the police station where she reported the incident. It is not certain if it was only jealousy that drove Jenkins to commit murder and then suicide. He was said to be depressed following a series of incidents, including his dismissal from employment at Hattieville Prison.
