Corozal Double Murder Person of Interest, John DeShaies, Still Being Questioned by Police

Francesca Matus & Drew Thomas DeVoursney

The murders of fifty-two-year-old Francesca Matus and Drew Thomas DeVoursney remain under investigation by Corozal Police, with the assistance of the F.B.I.  A suspect has been in custody for one week, but has still not been charged for the murders. Police have still not ascertained what when wrong two weeks ago after the Canadian-American couple left Scotty’s Bar and Grill just before eleven p.m. on April twenty-fifth. Their badly decomposed bodies were discovered almost a week later, on May first, with their hands tied with duct tape; they had been strangled to death. Their bodies have since been returned to the respective countries to be buried later this week.  Matus’ tenant, Canadian national John Deshaies, was detained as a suspect.  Tonight, News Five can confirm that he remains at the Corozal Police Station, even though he had been remanded to the Hattieville Prison last Friday in Independence by Magistrate Yolanda Demoya for theft and handling of over fifty-seven thousand dollars worth of electronic devices from the Placencia Casino. Deshaies, through his attorney, will be applying for bail at the Supreme Court in Belize City later this week.  But following his arraignment for theft last Friday, he claimed he was innocent.
