He’s no stranger to the regional gospel music scene and this weekend, Trinidadian artist Sherwin Gardner will bring his unique style of ministry to audiences in San Pedro and Belize City. Gardner, who is in the country at the invitation of the Heavenlies Gospel Band, touched down at the Phillip Goldson International Airport on Tuesday afternoon. News 5’s Patrick Jones was among the welcoming crew and asked Gardner what concertgoers can look forward to this weekend.
Sherwin Gardner, Trinidadian Gospel Artist
“It’s going to be a lot of different styles. I sing from various styles in terms of R&B, Soca, you name it, it’s going to be done. And we have a tight package that we put together, the band, and me and we’re just gonna to bring something really excellent. They’re going to expect an excellent standard of music. And what we do is really just to reach out and help people to enjoy themselves in the presence of God and really go for it and worship his holy name.”
Patrick Jones
“Is there a particular message you have for the Belizean people?”
Sherwin Gardner
“The message that we’re bringing is going to be various, but indeed we really try to bring a message of conversion, a message of change, a message that people should separate their lives, and draw closer to Christ. Especially in the times that we living in right now where we see throughout the world there are a lot of people dying and people loosing their lives; young people especially wasting their lives, and just to bring a message that its time that we really separate ourselves and live positive and really be holy and live holy with God.”
Patrick Jones
“You go by the name “The Intellect.” Why “The Intellect”?
Sherwin Gardner
“The reason why they call me “The Intellect” is because of my ability to make up a lot of stuff on the spot. A lot of times when I’m on the stage I would just see different issues in my mind and be able to rhyme everything without flaws and stuff like that.”
Gardner’s first show will be staged at the football field in San Pedro on Friday night. The encore presentation comes to the Belize City Centre on Saturday night.
