Bz. Customs Officer being held in Miami
A Belizean official is in the United States tonight, charged with a crime. Details are still sketchy, but late this evening, Public Relations Officer for the U.S. Embassy, Edgar Embrey, confirmed that a Belizean Customs Officer is being held in Miami by U.S. authorities. But that’s about as much as we know. We were unable to reach Comptroller of Customs Everard Lopez, Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Alan Usher, or Minister Ralph Fonseca for comment. But sources tell News 5 that the low-ranking officer in question was detained aboard a vessel in international waters by the U.S. Coast Guard in the company of a group of Colombians. The name of the Belizean has not been confirmed and what exactly was found on board is unclear at this time.
