DeShaies Says He Has and Will Cooperate with Authorities
Since being picked up as a person of interest by Corozal police, DeShaies is being bounced around from one jurisdiction to another on a seemingly endless string of perp walks. We asked whether he believes that his individual rights are being interfered with as a result of the ongoing detention.

“Do you feel as if though your constitutional rights or your fundamental human rights are being impinged based on this ongoing legal saga?”
John DeShaies, Charged for Theft
“Well right now, at this point in time, I think that to get me investigated I don’t mind giving some time or whatever but I think that I have been investigated. I’ve given all the information. Everybody knows where I was and what I was doing. There’s absolutely no reason for them to carry on with me personally. I think to move forward as them going on with this, I think seriously it would be a constitutional situation that I would have to take in hand. But I don’t have any problem with being detained. I don’t have any problem with them asking me questions and the thing is that you have to get everybody off the, you know, you have to get everybody as a suspect, figure out where they were and what they did. That has to happen. It would be an injustice for me not to do that knowing that Francesca’s killer or killers or whoever did this is still missing, you know what I mean. So I have no problem being detained for that, I have no problem doing an interview with the police. I have no problem with the F.B.I., the DNA or whatever they need, I have no problem with that, right. I’ve given everything so there should be absolutely no reason at this point in time to want anything else from me.”
So for now, Deshaies remains in custody.
