Police Supt. put on interdiction
In more disturbing crime news, a senior police official has been arrested and charged with wounding and harm. Superintendent Ewart Itza, the officer in charge of the Southern Formation is at home tonight on interdiction after two separate reports filed by residents in Dangriga. The “victims”, identified as Lincoln Cardinez and Timothy Cano, both allege that at different times of the day on August twenty-fourth Itza attacked them. As a result of their injuries, Superintendent Itza was charged with one count of harm and one count of wounding. The charges stem from the findings of an internal investigation launched after Cano and Cardinez filed their complaints. Sources tell News 5 the case will be prosecuted by a crown counsel from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, as opposed to a civilian prosecutor from Dangriga, in the interest of avoiding a possible conflict of interest scenario. In Superintendent Itza’s absence, Inspector Mark Stevens will hold over as Officer in Charge of the Southern Formation.
