Music Week Underway

Belizean artists across the country are celebrating Music Week 2017 by attending a number of activities that have been organized through the Office of the Music Ambassador.  This week, musicians, young and old, across all genres local and regional, will be participating in workshops on copyright and intellectual property.  They will also be performing at various events around the country.  This morning at the opening ceremony, News Five spoke with a few up and coming talents, including rising Bruk Dong star Cocono Bwai, and Unlimited.

“For the first I never knew that this would be the outcome so far.  But it was rough and I didn‘t have a picture.  But as I go along and I make new songs I make progress with my fans and supporters and I see that the culture music is, alive once again.  Now in 2017, I have a bigger picture than I had before, starting and doing my first song entering into the competition.  So this year it’s just about pushing bigger and better for the Belize Creole culture.”

“Well I notice that for a while Bruk Dong has been lost.  I mean 2014, 2015, 2016.  Now we’re at 2017, you know, I decided that I need to forward, at least guide, well noh bust, but forward, you know.  Maybe a female Bruk Dong artist, maybe a female Bruk Dong who can at least continue the work that Leelah Vernon has paved for the Creole culture.  Got more younger artist pushing their energy and positivity towards Bruk Dong music. I mean pushing the culture, making this after hits.”

“Ih mean a lot to me because we could come out showcase fi we talent, showcase fi we product, get fi know the people dehn, meet everybody. The people can come out and meet the artists them. dah wah initiative weh we di do fi give back to the community. So we need the community to come out and support the thing. So far, Unlimited has been on the air and the media for like nine months and so far, so good. I can’t say that everything is good, music dah wah struggle especially if yo do it ina Belize. But with the measures weh di take, later down it wah be easier.”

Music Week culminates on Saturday with live performances by established acts, including Ernestine, C-Wills, Di x Band and Supa G.
