Maya land rights case adjourned to Friday
The long running Maya land rights case against the government was back in court on Wednesday. Hundreds travelled from south to the city in support or against the issue of land rights. Submissions were made by attorney for the Mayan Leaders Alliance and the Toledo Alcaldes’ Association, Antoinette Moore. The case was expected to continue today in the Chief Justices chambers with arguments from Lois Young on government’s behalf. But before the C.J. made it into the courtroom, Young made a request to have the hearing adjourned. That was upheld and Young will make her submissions starting at nine on Friday morning. If the case does not wrap up tomorrow, submissions will continue on Saturday morning.
