N.G.C. Says Neal Must Go Now!
Miranda told News Five that the N.G.C. is demanding Eldred Neal’s immediate resignation and that he should not wait to be removed. She argues that picking on the Garifuna by a Creole emphasizes the long-standing divide between the two ethnic groups, which she says should be cooperating together on issues that affect them both. According to Miranda, this will be on the agenda at the upcoming convention of the National Garifuna Council.
Sandra Miranda, President, National Garifuna Council
“I think he shouldn’t even wait to be removed; we need his immediate resignation. He needs to resign before he is removed. Even the language; that is not the way a leader should behave because as a leader you represent your people. Like I said the Public Service Union is multicultural and this is the group you are representing so you cannot be picking on the Garifuna. And the next thing, these are the one only blacks that will support you because it is only Garifuna and Creole who are blacks. So we should be looking at being black and rather than creating a divide, I think we should put our efforts into reducing the number of blacks at Kolbe Foundation; trying to reduce the number of black young men dropping on the streets in Belize City and elsewhere and we should focus on where we will take the black population because it is decreasing, it’s depleting and the criminal activities increase within the black elements.”
