Magistrate foils attempt on his life
Initial reports swirling around Belize City were that Chief Magistrate Herbert Lord had been murdered. But while Magistrate Lord is alive and well tonight, there was an attempt on his life on Saturday night…and today police were still looking for the suspect or suspects. Lord, who declined an on camera interview, told News 5 that shortly after six p.m. on Saturday he was on his veranda relaxing when a black car with tinted windows pulled up to his driveway. He says shots were fired from the vehicle and he quickly dropped to the floor. A total of five bullets were discharged and at least two penetrated the house before the vehicle sped off. Sources tell News 5 the would-be assassins may be individuals recently released from Hattieville prison. According to Magistrate Lord, Saturday’s incident was the third attempt on his life. The last incident happened twenty years ago when he worked in Orange Walk Town.
