Charges Withdrawn From Deshawn Ramirez; D.P.P. Says She Killed Her Husband in Self Defence

Deshawn Ramirez

Deshawn Ramirez – she is the woman who was charged with her husband’s murder on Monday and remanded to prison. But tonight she is free, after the murder charge was withdrawn and Deshawn was released from custody. On Friday night in Seine Bight, Deshawn and her husband Glenn Ramirez Junior were engaged in a confrontation in the village which led to the stabbing death, just two days short of their first wedding anniversary.  D.P.P. Cheryl-Lynn Vidal confirmed to News Five that after reviewing the file, she found that the woman had acted in self defence. In fact, eyewitnesses’ statements from at least four persons corroborate that Deshawn was being badly beaten by her husband.  Witnesses said that Ramirez Junior was punching Deshawn on the street in front of many persons, but no one intervened to assist her.  Her statement also coincides with the reports from other witnesses. Deshawn claimed that she pulled out a knife and stabbed her husband because of the brutal beating.

She also claims that it is not the first time she has been beaten in public and that she is a victim of domestic abuse.  Today, when she emerged from the court, Deshawn declined an on camera interview but told reporters, “I am sorry for what happened.” She went on to say she has apologized to her husband’s family and that she never intended to kill Glenn Junior.  She also said that if they didn’t forgive her, God will.  In our interview with Glenn’s mother on Monday, we asked her if the couple was violent with each other. She said she wasn’t entirely sure of the nature of the relationship, but she knew they would have many disputes. Here’s a part of the interview.

Andrea Polanco

“To which part of the body did she stab him?”

Agnes Ramirez

“Straight to the heart. My son took pictures and he showed me and that is when I see it. The little hole here – just a little hole right yah.”

Andrea Polanco

“One stab?”

Agnes Ramirez

“One stab.”

Andrea Polanco

“As it relates to your son and his wife – were those two drinking; were they under the influence of alcohol?”

Agnes Ramirez

“I don’t know if they were drinking. I cannot say, but they were fighting and it turned to a murder because that is a murder.”

Andrea Polanco

“Did they have a violent relationship?”

Agnes Ramirez

“That I can’t answer you because I don’t live with them, I lived here at my house. But whenever she and him have a little problem she would always come and say Miss Agnes, Jun Jun the give me problem enuh. I would tell ah nuh worry bout Jun Jun, I gwein after Jun Jun and she would say he deh dah work and so whenever he come from work I would always go there and talk to both of them.”

Andrea Polanco

“So, despite all the issues they had in their marriage, I imagine you never thought that it would come to this?”

Agnes Ramirez

“I didn’t think so. I could not even imagine that my daughter in law weh I love so much would have killed my son. I could never think in my whole life that this girl would kill my son. I always try my best for her, like wise him because he loved her so much. Everything for my son, ‘my wife.’”

According to the D.P.P., there is no rebuttal from police.
