U.B. introduces new administrators

Story Picture
Today as part of the University of Belize restructuring process, U.B. introduced its new faculty and administration to the media. According to interim President, Dr. Corinth Morter-Lewis, they believe the newly appointed deans and directors will play a crucial role in the further advancement of the university and the fulfilment of its mission. Dr. Martin Cuellar, who has been appointed Dean of Student Affairs, says he understands there have been many concerns expressed by students, but he would like to reassure them that the new system allows better communication between administration, faculty, staff and students.

“So I think over the next year we could look forward to this kind of collaboration, more directly, more regularly between student affairs and the academic body, because we too seem to be the basket within which the students place these concerns. And so with a direct link now between their propository and the academic management, leadership of the institution, we should be able to create the wider net…cast that wider net of response and I think that will get us where we need to go.”

“What we really wanted to do was to bring the team we have at this point consolidated to take the university forward. And the team we have consolidated has been built on the restructuring decisions that were made and represented by faculty and staff. We’ve just gone through a week of orientation of new students coming in, the deans and directors were introduced to those new students and we thought it was time to say to the media, look at what we have, see where we plan to go, and perhaps later on come along and evaluate us in terms of what targets we achieve and where we get over next year or so.”

Other newly appointed Deans include Dr. Vilma Joseph as Dean of Arts and Education, Doctor Aaron Lewis, Dean of Science and Technology, Lydia Harris-Thurton, Dean of Nursing and Allied Health and Kevin Geban, Dean of Management and Social Science.
