San Pedro hosts Costa Maya Pageant

Promotion of the event has been low key this year, so in case you haven’t heard, this weekend is the annual Costa Maya festival in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye. Kicking off the event on Thursday night is La Reina de la Costa Maya pageant, in which delegates from five neighbouring countries will compete for the title. Carina Velasquez is representing Guatemala, Mercedes Garcia is Miss Honduras, Diana Juarez is Mexico’s queen, while Rocio Macal hails from El Salvador. Miss Belize, Leilah Pandy, will do the honours for the jewel. The young ladies will spend the rest of the week on the island touring local attractions and rehearsing. The pageant will be held on Thursday night in San Pedro and will be hosted by Mexican TV personalities Gabriel Soto and Lilian Villanueva. Entertainment will be provided by groups from Guatemala, El Salvador and Belize.
