Benefit concert will help music school

This Sunday the Pallotti Music School invites you to two hours of relaxation at the Belize Biltmore Hotel. Former students will be playing several classical favourites while at the same time raise some much-needed cash for the music school. News 5’s Jacqueline Woods caught up with two of the guest performers as they were busy rehearsing for the show.

“It’s basically to promote the music school, as we’ve been doing for many years since it began in the early 80’s. And also, it’s a way to get some help in terms of funding, a scholarship fund for some of the students that aren’t as privileged enough to get private lessons at the music school.”

“Most performers benefit from the scholarship programme. I myself have benefited once or twice and so I guess this is a way to say thanks and keep it going, so I can give back to whatever was given to me.”

“On Sunday you will be playing the piano, how long have you been playing that instrument?”

“I have been playing actually…I have been studying since I was about four, but the first time I ever touched the keyboard I was about two years old I can remember. I decided to assist to help out with the scholarship programme. We need more instruments and we need more qualified people. Hopefully, also this concert will be a chance to get the Belizean public to appreciate more of this kind of music. It’s going to be most classical, repertoire and I think we’re also in need of more educated people, try and encourage people to go and learn this kind of music and whoever is interested and can play an instrument, and can teach also, can assist with some of the music schools in Belize and get this kind of music…get more appreciation for it going.”

If you are interested in attending the summer concert at the Biltmore, the show gets underway at six Sunday evening. Tickets can be purchased for twenty dollars at the door.
